Conference of Speakers Gets New Speaker. The Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman is the new chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria. His election followed the constitutional end of the tenure of Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa who was elected in August 2018. The constitution of the conference stipulates a two-year term of office for its elected leadership which rotates between the northern and southern part of Nigeria. At a meeting held at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja on Thursday, Rt. Hon. Obasa handed over to Suleiman. Speaker Obasa led what is acclaimed the most vibrant tenure of the conference having inputs in matters of national interest. His tenure saw the push for financial autonomy for state legislatures and judiciary as well as coopperation with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve this.
