LG Autonomy for Grassroots Development: President Tinubu Set Up 10 Man Committee To End Governors Interference
In a tactical move to strengthen democratic governance and ensure the effective functioning of local governments, the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR is set to inaugurated a 10-man Inter-Ministerial Committee whose sole aim is to enforce the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to local governments in Nigeria.
The committee, to be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, will ensure the implementation of the Supreme Court verdict delivered on July 11, 2024. The judgement upheld provisions recognizing local governments as the third tier of government.
This singular effort according to the Chief Media Editor of Brooom Nigeria, Prince Babatunde Kolawole is the greatest move ever for grassroot developments in the fourth republic. A pointer that President Tinubu truly wants to starts investing more in the local people from October 2024.
The committee’s members include representatives from key ministries, agencies, and stakeholders, demonstrating the Federal Government’s commitment to collaborative efforts in enforcing the judgement.
The inauguration of the committee will mark a significant milestone in the quest for local government autonomy, and its success will have far-reaching implications for democratic governance and development for the local people.

1. Secretary to the Government of the Federation – Chairman
2. Hon. Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy -Member
3. Attorney General of the Federation & Minister of Justice – Member
4. Hon. Minister of Budget & Economic Planning
5. Accountant General of the Federation
6. Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria
7. Permanent Secretary (Federal Ministry of Finance)
8. Chairman, Revenue Mobilization Allocation & Fiscal Commission
9. Representative of State Governors
10. Representative of Local Governments
