Middle Belt Forum Protests Exclusion from North West Development Commission
The Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Kaduna State Chapter, has expressed outcry over the absence of its members in the newly formed Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC). According to a Press Statement released yesterday to Brooom Nigeria and signed by Luka Binniyat, Chairman-Middle Belt Forum, Kaduna State Chapter condemns the commission’s appointments made by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for lacking diversity and federal character representation.
Middle Belt Region
Reasons for the Protest
* Perennial marginalization of Southern Kaduna and Southern Kebbi
* No representation for large Christian populations
* Unfair resource allocation to ravaged areas
* Potential conflicts and crises of interest in the Northwest
* Boosting President Tinubu’s political standing through inclusive representation
Background
The Middle Belt spans 13 states in northern Nigeria and the FCT, with Southern Kebbi and Southern Kaduna being part of this region. These areas have significant land size, population, and educated individuals, making their exclusion from the commission unjustifiable.
Demands
The MBF demands inclusion of its members in the NWDC to address the region’s unique challenges, such as genocidal herdsmen destruction and kidnappings since 2014. The forum also seeks recognition for its restraint during the #EndBadGovernance protest, demonstrating its commitment to peace.
Action Call
President Tinubu is urged to reconsider the appointments and ensure representative diversity in the NWDC. By doing so, he can promote peace, stability, and development in the Northwest region.
