Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on his fellow senators to renew their commitment to addressing the challenges facing Nigeria. In a welcome address titled “Rising To The Greatness of Our Calling,” Akpabio urged senators to recommit to the service of the nation as they resume legislative duties after the Yuletide and New Year break.
Akpabio emphasized the importance of addressing the nation’s challenges, saying, “Let us resolve to rededicate ourselves to the task of fixing Nigeria—transforming it into the country of our dreams, the pride of Africa, and a beacon of hope for the world.”
He highlighted two critical tasks before the Senate: the consideration of the national budget and the completion of electoral reforms. Akpabio stressed that the national budget is not just a financial document but a blueprint of the aspirations and hopes of millions of Nigerians.
On electoral reforms, Akpabio noted that it is a moral imperative to gift the Nigerian people a system that is transparent, credible, and reflective of their will.
Akpabio also urged his colleagues to remain steadfast in their prayers for the peace and unity of Nigeria, saying, “Our country faces numerous challenges, but we must never underestimate the power of collective intercession.”
He concluded by saying, “Nigeria is counting on us. The time to act is now. Let us unite in purpose, strive for the common good, and dedicate ourselves wholly to the task of nation-building.”
