Nigerians in Diaspora Demand Better Engagement with Government
*BROOM NIGERIA EXCLUSIVE*
Washington D.C. – A recent meeting of Nigerians in the diaspora has highlighted the significant contributions that the community can make to Nigeria’s development. Dr. Emmanuel Dada, an inventor and member of the diaspora community in the United States, has called for better government engagement with Nigerian-American talents, citing the significant financial and talent contributions that the community has to offer.

According to Dr. Dada, many Nigerians in the diaspora, including himself, were beneficiaries of government scholarships to study in the USA. However, despite acquiring valuable skills and expertise over the years, many of these individuals have not been utilized effectively by the government.

“We believe that the Nigerian government can tap into the vast pool of talent and expertise that exists in the diaspora community,” Dr. Dada said. “We are not just remittance senders; we are also skilled professionals who can contribute to Nigeria’s development in meaningful ways.”
The meeting, which was attended by prominent Nigerians and stakeholders, focused on diaspora engagement and contributions to Nigeria. Dr. Dada’s call for better government engagement was echoed by other attendees, who emphasized the need for more effective communication and collaboration between the government and the diaspora community.
*A Missed Opportunity?*
The Nigerian government has been urged to take advantage of the skills and expertise of Nigerians in the diaspora. With millions of Nigerians living abroad, the diaspora community has the potential to play a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s future. However, many Nigerians in the diaspora feel that their contributions are not being fully utilized.
“We want to be part of the solution, not just part of the problem,” Dr. Dada said. “We believe that with the right policies and engagement, we can make a meaningful contribution to Nigeria’s development.”
