The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed that the impeachment process against Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, commenced on January 8, 2026, is proceeding as planned, in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a press statement dated January 9, 2026, and made available to Brooom Nigeria, the Assembly stated that notices of allegations of gross misconduct have been served on the Governor and Deputy Governor, and they are awaiting for their responses.

The Assembly dismissed any claims that the process has been halted or discontinued, describing such reports as misinformation aimed at causing disaffection between the House and the public.

Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, Speaker of the House, urged the public to disregard such antics, stating that the Assembly remains committed to its constitutional duties.
The state Assembly expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for their prayers and encouragement, and thanked stakeholders and leaders for their support.
The statement was signed by Hon. Dr. Enemi Alabo George, Chairman, House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints.
