The community developmental meeting of the Zonal CDC Ifo Local Government (LG) met last tuesday 27th July, 2021.
The event which took place inside Isiaka Hall just beside Ifo Police station had in attendance the CDC Ogun Central Senatorial Chairman Alhaja W. Adekunle, Chairman of Ifo Zonal CDC Mr Amos Oladele, his Vice Chairman Elder R.O Awe, Zonal Secretary Alhaji Olorunnisola among other excos. Also present at the meeting was the Divisional Police Officers for Ibogun, CSP Samuel Oladele his counterpart from Ifo, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle and representative of an online media outfit Brooom Nigeria.
The Zonal CDC chairman Mr Oladele during his welcome address appreciate everybody who made it to the meeting. He spoke briefly on the composition of the Zonal CDC to include 32 executive members and 58 Area CDC across Ifo LG.
On security, Mr Oladele lamented on the high rate of insecurity in Ifo communities. “Are we going to continue like this” ? He asked before calling on the Police to address all.
The DPO Ibogun Mr Samuel Oladele started his address by first acknowledging the executives, members and men of the press. He emphasised on the duties of the police to include the following; protection of lives and properties, keeping of laws and orders, taking offenders to court for prosecution, surveillance, raiding of communities of crime and many others.
Mr Oladele pointed at unemployment specifically as the major reason for crime in most communities. Also our environment and the abandonment of our values for wealth and among other factors are why crime are on the increase.
While reassuring all on the readiness of the Nigerian Police in securing lives and properties, he appealed to community leaders to always call on the police to help clean their communities of crime. CSP Samuel urged leaders to put preventive measures in place by organising youths of good character into a neighborhood vigilante as their is an urgent need for community policing.
In his short address, DPO Ifo CSP Adeniyi Adekunle called on community leaders to join hands with the police to manage and control crime as Ifo is the home land to over 25 different cult groups.
Mr Adekunle spoke on the importance of community security to involves the employment of security guards, security consciousness of residents, clearing of over grown bushes in communities and most importantly the welfare of security guards.
On crime management, the DPO noted that the people’s expectation has not been met because of insufficient security institution in and around Ifo. while promising that the police will continue to give there best, CSP Adekunle appealed to the executive of the Zonal CDC to put in more efforts in ensuring that an Area command is established in Ifo LG.
Others dignitaries at the event include members of the National Population Commission (NPC) who came to seek the support of the Zonal CDC towards preparation for the next national census.
