In a stunning display of disloyalty, a former close ally and friend of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced their intention to challenge the President in the upcoming presidential election in 2027. This move has left many in the political circle reeling, as the former ally, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had once been a trusted and loyal member of the President’s inner circle.
According to an interview monitored by Brooom Nigeria on BBC Hausa service, the Turaki Adamawa was quoted to have said “he would give his support to Obi if PDP zones the presidential ticket to the south”.
This has left some of his supporters to be “deeply hurt and disappointed” by the betrayal statement, and are struggling to understand why he choose to turn against his benefactor in such a way.
“This is a classic case of ingratitude and betrayal,” said a presidential aide to Brooom Nigeria. “The President had taken the former Vice president under his wing, by providing a platform to succeed, and this is how they repay that kindness? It’s a shame.”
The development has sparked a rift within the political circle, with some members openly condemning Alhaji Atiku’s move. “How can someone who was once so close to the President now turn against them?” asked a party loyalist. “It’s a clear display of disloyalty and a lack of gratitude.”
As the present administration continues to redirect Nigeria towards progress, many are left wondering what could have driven Atiku to make such a drastic move. Was it a desire for power? A sense of entitlement? Whatever the reason, one thing is clear: the political world will be watching this development closely, as to the reason why he won’t contest 2027 presidency but choose to work against his benefactor in a shocking display of betrayal.
