Lagos State House of Assembly Takes Decisive Action Against Alimosho Council Chairman
In a bold move, the Lagos State House of Assembly has handed down an indefinite suspension to Jelili Sulaimon, Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area, effective immediately. This unanimous decision was made during a plenary session, where lawmakers resolved that Vice Chairman Akinpelu Johnson would take over the council’s affairs.
Reasons for Suspension
* Failure to Adhere to Directives: Jelili’s consistent disregard for the Assembly’s directives
* Mismanagement of Public Funds: Significant irregularities in financial records
* Non-Compliance with Financial Regulations: Failure to follow procurement processes and budget guidelines
According to Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs, Jelili’s suspension stems from his alleged role in masterminding chaos in the Iyana-Ipaja axis of Alimosho in April 2024, resulting in the DEATH of Mr. Micheal Ajayi.
Lawmakers, including Majority Leader Noheem Adams and Hon. Nureni Akinsanya, supported the suspension, emphasizing the need for accountability and adherence to governance protocols. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to relevant authorities.
