Festac Town’s Cry for Help: Khairat Animashaun-Ajiboye Leads the Charge

Taking a walk through the streets of Festac Town, you are met with a sense of nostalgia and despair. This once-thriving community, where Khairat Animashaun-Ajiboye grew up, has become a shadow of its former self. The streets are littered with trash, the buildings are crumbling, and the sense of community that once thrived here is all but gone.

Hon. Khairat Animashaun-Ajiboye is not alone in this appeal. Many residents of Festac Town are crying out for help, begging for someone to intervene and restore their community to its former glory. Despite their pleas, the town continues to deteriorate.

Broom Nigeria (BN) monitored the most recent appeal by Hon. Mrs. Khairat Olaore Animashaun-Ajiboye on March 1st, 2025 Leadership Newspaper publication(page 6) and reviewed on Bond FM 7am newspapers report in Yoruba. Mrs. Khairat took it upon herself to write to the Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Housing & Urban Development, begging them to intervene and save Festac Town from further decay.

A History of Neglect

Festac Town was once a model community, built to showcase the best of Nigerian architecture and urban planning. However, over the years, it has been neglected and left to decay. The Federal Housing Authority (FHA), responsible for maintaining the town, has failed to do so.

The result is a town plagued by poor infrastructure, inadequate waste management, and a lack of community facilities. The streets are narrow and congested, the drains are clogged, and the buildings are crumbling.

A Call to Action

It’s not too late to save Festac Town. With the right intervention, the community can be restored to its former glory. Mrs. Khairat is calling on the Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Housing & Urban Development to take immediate action.

Festac needs a comprehensive plan to address the town’s infrastructure, waste management, and community facilities. The community must be engaged in the planning and decision-making process to ensure their needs are met. Those responsible for the town’s neglect must be held accountable.

A Deadline for Change

Khairat has given the Lagos State Government and the Federal Ministry of Housing & Urban Development a deadline of June 2025 to take meaningful action. She believes that if significant improvements are not seen by then, Festac Town may be lost forever. However, with the right intervention, the community can be saved and restored to its former glory.
